The Girl Scout Gold Award

The Gold Award is the highest award a girl scout can achieve and only 5.4% of eligible girls successfully earn this award each year. It requires at least 80 hours of work, must be sustainable, has to assist in solving an issue dear to them, and should drive lasting change in their community and beyond. The Gold Award project also must consist of taking initiative and has to positively impact an extensive amount of people. It involves seven steps that require persistent effort and dedicated work. Completing the Gold Award benefits your college application, makes you a more definite applicant for scholarships, lets you join the military a position higher than others, and makes your resume more captivating to employers.

I decided to pursue the Gold Award project to challenge myself and to help break the gender barrier in the Biotech field. Through working on this project I learned organizational, communication, and computer skills as well as time management, business etiquette, and public speaking. I became more confident in myself and I hope it inspires other girls to pursue their dreams!
